The Center offers simulation modalities to meet a wide range of learner needs and program objectives. The modalities include : (1) role playing/table top activities; (2) board games; (3) task trainers/static manikins; (4) computer-based/haptic simulators; (5) mid fidelity manikins; (6) high fidelity manikins (adult, pregnant woman, child, newborn, premature infant); and (7) HealthCAST – a Simulated Patient Program (actors).
High fidelity manikins include: Sim Man 3G, Noelle birthing manikin, Lucina birthing manikin, Pediatric HAL 5 year old, Sim Baby, Newborn HAL, SimNewB Advanced and Premie HAL. Other manikins include SimMan Classic, VitalSim, Nursing Kelly, Mega Code Kid, Harvey Cardiopulmonary Simulator, and Chester Chest.
HealthCAST (Collaborative Acting Simulation Training) is a simulated patient program and the result of a collaboration between the UH Manoa School of Nursing and the Department of Theatre and Dance. Student- actors play roles as patients or family members in various healthcare clinical scenarios and are trained to portray the history, emotions, relationships, communication style, and physical signs so accurately that they produce the highest level of realism for healthcare students.
