The Center is an 8,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art simulation facility that mimics Hawaii’s leading healthcare agencies in design and equipment. There are seven simulation rooms with high fidelity manikins: (1) emergency/trauma; (2) labor and delivery; (3) two adult intensive care; (4) pediatric intensive care; (5) neonatal intensive care; and (6) home/community setting. An eight bed unit with mid-fidelity manikins and an adjacent two bed unit with static manikins have bedside electronic health records and computerized medication dispensing units. These units can be configured in different ways to simulate a medical-surgical or pediatric inpatient unit, pre operative area, post anesthesia recovery area, clinical decision unit, ambulatory surgery area, procedure area, etc. To simulate an outpatient setting, there are three standard examination rooms. And three designated research areas are available to conduct studies in biomedical and behavioral health.
To optimize the simulation experience, there are five control rooms and four debriefing rooms with integrated, comprehensive IT and AV systems capable of live-streaming to sites in The Center and across the state. And a multi-media room has video conferencing capabilities locally and internationally.
The Center has office space for administrative and operational staff, a reception area, storage space, computer server/storage space, restrooms and a kitchenette. There is direct elevator and stair access to The Center. For security purposes, the facility is under 24-hour video surveillance.
